Cllr Marilyn Ashton was first elected to represent Stanmore Park ward in 1998. After standing down for a brief period in 2010, she was re-elected as a Councillor for Stanmore Park ward, where she lives, in a 2011 by-election.

Marilyn is currently Deputy Leader of Harrow Council and the Conservative Group as well as being Cabinet Member for Planning & Regeneration. In this role she scrutinises planning applications as well as reviewing the previous Labour administration's deeply flawed, and costly, regeneration plans.

She has a particular interest in planning issues, and from 2006 – 2010 she served as the Portfolio Holder for Planning, Development and Enterprise and Chairman of the LDF Panel in the last Conservative administration. She has served as a Magistrate since 2004.

Harrow Council Opposes Labour's Plan To Water Down Green Belt Protections

Local Conservative Councillors have put on record their opposition to the Labour government's proposed plans to water down protections for Green Belt land.
This is an important issue for Harrow as our borough has 1,090 hectares of land designated as Green Belt.

A New Local Plan To Protect Harrow’s Suburban Character

Local Plans are the localised policy framework used by Councils to guide, control and regulate development within their geographical areas of authority.

At the Harrow Council September Cabinet Meeting Conservative Councillors agreed new planning policies which will help protect our suburbs from inappropriate developments.

At the July Harrow Council Cabinet meeting, the Conservative administration adopted a Tall Buildings Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). 

In simple terms, this is additional planning policy guidance which sets out where tall buildings are, and are not, acceptable in Harrow.
