At the September Council meeting, local Conservative councillors held debates opposing the closure of Harrow Police Station’s front desk, the closure of Mount Vernon’s Urgent Care Unit and the government’s dithering on funding a new SEND school in Harrow.
The Mayor of London’s decision to close the public front desk at Harrow Police Station removes the last front desk in Harrow, making it harder for residents to report crimes in person and leaving local people feeling less safe.
The Labour government’s decision to close the Urgent Care Unit at Mount Vernon Hospital will have a detrimental impact on the availability of health services to Harrow residents and will lead to further stress being placed on Northwick Park and Hillingdon hospitals.
The Labour government are also dithering on funding a new SEND school in Harrow. In 2023, the Conservative Council purchased 265 The Ridgeway (former Plymouth Brethren site), protecting the site from high-rise development and dedicating the land to be used as the home for a new SEND school in Harrow. The Conservative government in 2024 agreed to fund this school. Labour paused the project after the July General Election and has still not made a decision well over a year later.
Harrow is being let down by the Labour government and Labour Mayor of London. Sadly, Harrow’s Labour councillors chose not to put residents first and refused to criticise the bad decisions of their Mayor and government, despite the undisputable damage they are doing to Harrow.
Only Harrow’s Conservative councillors have a proven track record of putting residents first and have stood up to Conservative governments in the past and are currently standing up against the Labour government who seek to damage services available to local people.
