We are only a few weeks away from the Harrow Council elections.
When we gained control of Harrow Council in May 2022, we inherited a council which was 18 months away from bankruptcy. Services were dysfunctional, the council was uncontactable, and the council’s reputation was tarnished by the £2 million highways fraud which happened under Labour’s watch.
We have worked hard over the last 4 years to fix Labour’s mess. We have made significant progress in improving services and making Harrow an even better place to live, but we know that there is still much more to be done.
Since 2022, we have:
- Fixed over 10,000 potholes and resurfaced 178 roads and paths in the last year alone, with a plan to do many more.
- Reopened a general enquires phoneline, you can now call the council on 020 8863 5611 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) and speak to someone when you need help from the council.
- Opened a new dedicated Resident Contact Centre in Gayton Road where you can receive face to face support and advice from council staff.
- Issued over 4,000 fines for fly-tipping offences and increased the fine from £400 to £1,000.
- Increased street cleaning capacity, ensuring our communities are clean and tidy.
- Created a Grimebusters squad who work relentlessly to remove graffiti and other grime from our streets.
- Invested over £6 million in our parks replacing playgrounds, tennis courts and pathways.
- Increased the number of Green Flag accredited parks for the first time in a generation, we inherited 6 Green Flag Parks, we now have 8 which is more than Brent, Barnet and Hillingdon combined.
- We will have 10 Green Flag Parks later this year and will have 12 next year.
- Implemented 1 hour free parking which has been used over 10.5 million times by local people to support local businesses.
- Installed 12 large 1,000 litres bins at our parks to reduce littering last year with 21 more large bins to be installed in our parks before this summer.
- Put up 400 flower baskets across Harrow to enhance our town centre and high streets.
- Put up Christmas lights on lampposts in our town and district centres.
- Promoted pride in our borough and country by installing dozens of Union Jack banners on lampposts in locations all over Harrow celebrating Harrow’s 60th anniversary as a London borough as well as fostering patriotism.
I know that there is still so much more to do, but if you vote anything other than Conservative on 7th May it will let Labour back in and all this progress will be put at risk.
Help us to finish the job, Vote Conservative on 7th May.
Take care,
